Although I could sit all day by the pool, I do get dragged to all the local places of interest. So if you looking to sightsee and have hired a car here are a few places we have visited.
If you want to experience true Cypriot life you need to visit Polis. Its about 17miles or a 30 minute car journey away from the apartment. Polis, which means town, is as if life has been frozen in time. It offers a range of traditional restaurants and shops with life revolving around the towns square. With sea views one side and a nature reserve the other it is a must for discovering the wildlife on the established trails.
Paphos is a about 11 miles and a 28 minute car journey. You might not know but Cyrpus has been producing wine for about 5000 years. So they know a thing or two and have a vineyard or two. Even if your not a wine buff the breathtaking views are worth it alone. Several companies offer tours to see one or several vineyards.
A bit further afield is Troodo Mountains. Roughly an hour and half car journey as about 57 miles away but worth a day out. The Troodos National Park covers 9,147 hectares around Mount Olympus. The highest point is Chionistra at 1952m and the lowest being Moni forest at 700m. Renowned for its rich flora and fauna I really cant do it justice in words so have a look at the official site here.
Lastly back closer to home the Tombs of the Kings in Paphos is a 20 minute car journey from the apartment. Although no Kings were actually buried there it is still an amazing experience. But take my advice and take water and a hat as there isn’t much shade and if the weather is good ( its nearly always good) it will be hot .
Ohh i forgot one. Adonis Baths and Waterfalls about 30 minutes away by car is one of the most beautiful and unique areas in Cyprus. Tradition says that Adonis the God of Beauty tended his horses in this place and hunted in the Akamas forest. I say its jolly nice place to visit.
